Division 2 Team Clinch Leinster Double

It was a night to remember for our Division 2 Leinster League team as they snatched a win in their final league match to clinch the title and confirm the Leinster League and Cup double.

 

With the Leinster Division 2 Cup won in December against Drogheda, the focus was firmly on the League campaign for our lads. It was a tight run affair throughout the course of the campaign and it was Drogheda that once again provided the competition for 1st place.

 

A loss in the League to Drogheda in February ensured that if both teams won their remaining games, the league would be decided in the final game of the season when both sides met. As it turned out, that is exactly what happened.

 

Drogheda had two former North Dublin players in their ranks in Thomas Reeves and Fionan McMenamin (whose father Paul was playing for North Dublin). This was a relatively young Drogheda side meaning it would be youth versus experience for the most part.

 

Our side is littered with former internationals and it was that experience that would win the day for North Dublin. A solid gameplan that was well executed gave North Dublin a 3-1 lead at half-time. Hardly an unassailible lead but a strong lead in a close game. The lads would maintain their lead in the 2nd half and even went on to extend it with a couple of very well worked goals.

 

The final score was 8-2 to North Dublin and the win sealed a League and Cup double. Another trophy to add for the Division 2 team who have been there or there abouts every season for quite a well now. 

 

A great achievement and one which the entire Club are extremely proud of.
