Our Division 2 Leinster League team has made it two on the bounce tonight with their victory in the Leinster League Division 2 Cup final. Having won the cup last year, the lads were looking to retain their crown and they did not disappoint.

 

Old foes Drogheda were the opposition in the final, so the lads knew that they were in for a tough game from the off. However, we have made a few good additions to the squad this year with Simon Murray, Colm Dowling and Luca Vuksic . Simon decided to drop down to Division 2 due to lack of availability for the Seniors. Colm has stepped up from the Division 3 team after making great strides in the last few months and new Croatian recruit, Luca, has been a handy addition to the team.

 

It was a back and forth affair but our lads stayed ahead for the duration of the game. However, it took former Irish International goalkeeper, Mick Cope, to be at his best to drive the team to victory. Mick managed a Man of the Match performance which included not one, but two penalty saves as well as a number of big saves at important moments in the game. What makes Mick's performance all the more incredible, is the fact that he played in the Seniors National League defeat to Half Moon the day before due to his son, Jamie's absence. He's still got it!

 

With Mick in top form and our lads putting away their chances at the other end, we managed to come out on top with a 6-4 win. The lads now turn their focus to the League in an effort to seal a Leinster League and Cup double.
