It is no doubt that 2017 was a massive year for North Dublin. Our sea swimmers were smashing it with Frank Chatham winning Swimmer of the Year and Bernard Sweeney winning the National 25km, setting a new record in the process, the D2 Leinster team add a League title to their 2016 Leinster Cup, the D3 team are riding high in the National league, we have a Senior Ladies time for the 1st time in our history and the Senior Men added the Leinster Senior Cup to the historic Irish Senior Cup win in April.

 

With that in mind, the North Dublin Player of the Year award would be a very prestigious one to win this year. It is always an honour to be recognized as the best player in your club over the year but obviously this year had the added prestige. As usual, it was down to Senior Coach, Sean Kenna, to select the Player of the Year and for the 2nd year running he chose Senior Captain, Stevie Nolan.

 

This is Stevie's 4th time to win the prize, pushing him to 2nd in table for most wins, one behind record holder Mick Cope. Stevie has truely earned this award. He was the heart and soul of the Irish Senior Cup winning squad and his heart and effort constantly drive the team to new heights. Sean said when presenting the award "One of the many reasons that I am giving this to Stevie this year, is the fact that he wholeheartedly believed that this team would win the Irish Senior Cup in 2017. This belief was then tranferred to the players around him and they delivered".

 

Stevie is a real leader in the close knit group as well as being a committed clubman. Stevie has recently taken to helping coach our Juniors in the effort to ensure we don't have to wait another 23 years for an Irish Senior Cup. Well done Stevie, a very deserving winner of the 2017 North Dublin Player of the Year.
