Division 3 National League squad pictured after their League winning draw against Clonard

North Dublin have clinched the National League Division 3 title for the second year running with a draw away to Clonard in Lisburn. This title adds to the Leinster Division 3 Cup the lads won back in December.

 

In a season where North Dublin and Clonard hashed it out as run away leaders in the League, it was always likely that this game would be the six-pointer to clinch the title. As the League panned out, North Dublin had a four point cushion over their Northern rivals, although Clonard had a game in hand to play after this clash so the pressure was on. A single point meant that North Dublin couldn't be caught. A dangerous place to be but a more preferable on to Clonard's need for a win.

 

In a tight game throughout which saw North Dublin spend the majority of the game behind to a strong Clonard team, the lads produced a stunning comeback in the last quarter to nick the point required to seal the League title for a second year running. Clonard held what looked like an unassailable, 5-2 lead going into the final quarter. The game looked done and dusted. North Dublin, however, had other ideas. It was the pace and fitness of the team, particularly Mick O'Kane, Finn Hanley and Milo Kenny, that saw the lads blitz Clonard and nick 3 unanswered goals. Some gritty denfensive work was also required to hold out but the lads managed just that and the League was theirs.

 

A massive achievement considering that just a few short years ago we didn't even have a National League Division 3 team in the club. It is a testament to players, coaches and to the growth of the club as a whole. Well done all.
